Rooftop Planter Boxes — Torch-On Membrane
Redfern, Sydney · Subcontracted waterproofing to rooftop planter boxes

Substrate preparation inside the planter boxes
The object
A residential apartment complex in Redfern, Sydney, undergoing remedial works. Our scope was the rooftop planter boxes on the main roof deck.
The problem we solved
Planter boxes sit in permanent contact with saturated soil and irrigation water, directly over occupied apartments — the waterproofing has to hold long-term, with every drainage penetration and upstand sealed.
Our scope of works
Substrate preparation, priming and installation of a torch-on bitumen membrane to the planter boxes: floors, internal walls, upstands, corners, drainage penetrations and terminations.
Special features / difficulty
Tight, compartmented cells with multiple penetrations, worked live on an occupied building with rooftop access restrictions and hot-works controls for torch application.
The result
Planter boxes handed over waterproofed and ready for drainage layers and landscaping.
